Hunter Shinkaruk is set to lead the way in his draft year.

The Medicine Hat Tigers have named the 2013 NHL Draft eligible as their captain for the season.

Shinkaruk, who had 49 goals and 91 points in 66 games last season, takes the role after former captain Cole Grbavac graduated from Major Junior. The Calgary product is slotted fifth in Future Considerations’ September ranking for the 2013 draft in New Jersey next June.

“Shinkaruk is an impact goal scorer that has proven he can be an elite offensive threat,” Zenon Herasymiuk, a Western Hockey League scout for Future Considerations, said earlier this month. “Shinkaruk is fast and slippery, his vision is among the best in the draft class and he isn’t afraid to work in the corners to create chances for his team.”

Curtis Valk and Dylan Bredo will serve as Shinkaruk’s assistants.
