Miami’s Miele picks up Hobey hardware

Miami University’s Andy Miele can add one more to the mantle.

After receiving the CCHA player of the year nod along with a first-team all-star appearance and CCHA tournament MVP,  the Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. nativeset his sight on capturing the Hobey Baker, college hockey’s most prestigious prize.

Miele had a nation-leading 47 assists and 71 points and amassed a 17 game point streak over the course of the season. The five-foot-eight, 175-pound forward had points in 33 of 39 games this season.

He signed a free agent deal with the Phoenix Coyotes last week after taking his No. 1 seeded Redhawks were upset by New Hampshire.

Boston College’s Cam Atkinson and North Dakota’s Matt Frattin also were finalists for the award. Frattin signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday.
