When the New York Islanders trimmed their roster to the 23-man limit, Kirill Kabanov was left on the outside looking in.

Kabanov, the Isles third round pick, 65th overall in 2010, was instead returned to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Russian forward was selected 16th overall by the Montreal Junior in the Lewiston Maineiacs dispersal draft. The franchise has since become the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. The Armada marks Kabanov’s third team in three seasons of major junior.

Last year with Lewiston, Kabanov had 11 goals and 28 points in 39 games. He was nominated for the QMJHL’s humanitarian of the year award.
