Trio of eligibles lead Canada at U18’s

Josh Morrissey, Frederik Gauthier and Morgan Klimchuk, all ranked in the first round by Future Considerations, will lead Canada’s entry at the World Under-18 Championship later this month in Sochi, Russia.

The trio will be joined by fellow top prospects Shea Theodore and Jason Dickinson at Canada’s Under-18 training camp, held in Toronto starting Saturday.

Morrissey, a defenseman with the Prince Albert Raiders, is currently 16th in Future Considerations’ March ranking for the 2013 NHL Draft. The Calgary, AB product had 15 goals and 47 points in 70 games this season.

Gauthier is currently ranked one spot behind Morrissey at 17th in the March ranking. The six-foot-five Rimouski Oceanic centre had 22 goals and 60 points in 62 games.

The 26th-ranked Klimchuk was 27th in Western Hockey League scoring with 36 goals and 76 points while playing in all 72 games for the Regina Pats this season.

Darnell Nurse, Future Considerations’ fifth-ranked prospect was invited to the camp but was unable to attend.
