After an extended look in the preseason, Sven Bartschi is bound for Portland.

The Calgary Flames announced Monday that the prospect has been returned to the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.

Bartschi, the Swiss native taken 13th overall by the Flames in June’s NHL Entry Draft, had 34 goals and 85 points in 66 games last season. The import is expected to represent Switzerland for a second consecutive year at the 2012 World Junior Championship.

Bartschi wasn’t the only player returned to junior by Calgary. The Flames also sent Max Reinhart to the Kootenay Ice. In 71 games for the defending WHL champions last season, Reinhart notched 34 goals and 79 points.

His brother Griffin is a top-ranked defenseman for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
