Couturier is a big two-way defenseman with good defensive skills and decent offensive potential. Couturier is not afraid to play physical and is rather good at it, but he needs to continue to fill out his lanky frame in order to continue to be effective as he progresses. He is a good skater for a still growing defenseman, especially north-south skating. Couturier has to get more consistency on his shots from the point and better at passing when either he or his teammates are in motion. (May 2013)
