There was no shortage of showcasing opportunities at the BioSteel All-American Game.

Featuring the top American-born prospects eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft, the stage was set for prospects to leave their impression on scouts at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, MI on Jan. 20.

Here’s who stood out among the crowd to Future Considerations USHL scout Ray Napientek.

Alex Laferriere, RW, Des Moines (USHL), 5-11, 172, 10-28-2001
Future Considerations Winter Ranking: 60

“Laferriere played a real nice game. He showed he can play the game at a real high pace against a solid opponent. Laferriere generated a few chances with his speed as he does not need to slow down to make plays. I was really impressed with his improved skating. His shot has really come along lately. He’s generating more power in his release and can get a shot off quickly.”

Mitchell Miller, D, Tri-City (USHL), 5-11, 194, 12-20-2001
Future Considerations Winter Ranking: NR

“I went into the game wanting to see Mitchell Miller play against a top opponent and he did not disappoint. Miller has drawn my attention each viewing this season and this game was no different. His offensive skills are solid. His head is always up looking to make the next play. Miller can also carry the puck out of his own zone with speed and rarely makes a bad decision between the two choices. In his own zone, Miller uses an active stick and positioning to make plays. He struggled on the scoresheet but that does not indicate how he played.”

Ty Smilanic, LW, NTDP U18 (USHL), 6-1, 177, 1-20-2002
Future Considerations Winter Ranking: 52

“Smilanic played a good game. Simple in his approach, he generates chances with his speed and seems to be everywhere on the ice. Smilanic scored in deep off a rush. His ankle and finger injury did not seem to bother him. If he falls on draft boards, as he seems to be, I think he can be a real steal. Time will tell.”

Jake Sanderson, D, NTDP U18 (USHL), 6-1, 186, 7-8-2002
Future Considerations Winter Ranking: 25

“Sanderson showed his impressive speed throughout the game but that was only part of his skill highlighted in the game. Jake used his positioning well on his way to the net a few times and showed top-level puck skill in setting up a few teammates with his play. He’s not the biggest of players but he knows how to use his leverage to gain positioning. His hockey IQ makes him tough in his own zone too. Well-rounded game shown tonight.”
