Edina captain Ben Walker has left the high school hockey ranks to join the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League.

Walker informed the school of his decision Monday, the first day of high school tryouts. He won a Class 2A state title in 2010 with the school.

As a junior last year, Walker scored 18 goals and had 32 points. Skating with Team Southwest of the Elite League this fall, Walker had 14 goals and 27 points in 24 games.

His decision comes just weeks after Cody Corbett opted to join the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings after starting the season at Stillwater High School.
