Vilardi voted top OHL prospect

Gabe Vilardi has been voted top prospect for the 2017 NHL Draft in Sportsnet’s 2016–17 preseason OHL coaches poll.

Vilardi finished with 60 percent of the vote.

The 17-year-old had 17 goals and 38 points in 62 games in his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires.

He was third in Future Considerations’ preliminary ranking for the 2017 draft, behind Nolan Patrick of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Timothy Liljegren of Rogle.

Owen Tippett of the Mississauga Steelheads was voted second in the poll. Sasha Chmelevski, Matthew Strome, and Nick Suzuki finished tied for fourth.
