Tkachuk, Hughes named to Team USA’s prelim roster

Forward Brady Tkachuk and defensemen Quinton Hughes, eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft, were among the 28 players named to the preliminary roster for the 2018 U.S. National Junior Team.

Twenty-three will represent the United States at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2017 – Jan. 5, 2018, in Buffalo, New York.

Tkachuk, fourth in Future Considerations’ Fall ranking for the 2018 NHL Draft, has two goals and 12 points in 17 games as a freshman with Boston University this season. He had seven points (one goal, six assists) in seven games as captain to help Team USA to gold at the 2017 IIHF World Under-18 Championship. He also had two goals and five points in five games at the 2015 World Under-17 Challenge.

Hughes, ranked sixth, has one goal and 10 points in 14 games as a freshman with the University of Michigan. He had five points (one goal, four assists) at the 2017 World Under-18’s, and one goal and six points at the 2015 World Under-17’s.

Defenseman Scott Perunovich and forward Hugh McGing, both 1998-born draft eligibles, were named to the camp. Perunovich has 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in 17 games for the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and McGing has 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in 17 games for Western Michigan University.
