Import goaltender Steffen Soberg has headed home. The sixth overall pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft, Soberg was expected to tend the twine of the Swift Current Broncos for the upcoming season.

In fact, the fourth round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft even participated in a preseason tournament for the Broncos before leaving for Washington Capitals rookie camp.

But the native of Oslo, Norway never arrived in D.C.

The team has announced Soberg has left the club to deal with personal issues, according to Broncos play-by-play voice Shawn Mullin.

There is no timetable for Soberg’s North American return and a season in Swift Current is no guarantee.

In fact, Soberg’s issues may pertain to playing hockey in Swift Current this year. Stephen Whyno of The Washington Times has suggested Soberg’s absence has to do with the five-foot-11, 176-pound goaltender deciding where to play for the upcoming season.

The Capitals have previously emphasized a desire to have Soberg in North America for the upcoming season.
