After acquiring the 24th pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the Ottawa Senators quickly selected Peterborough Petes forward Matt Puempel.

Puempel became a wildcard heading into the draft with his inconsistent play and an injury to his hip that forced him to miss the remainder of the Ontario Hockey League season and World Under-18 Championship.

Still, the Peterborough Pete standout is a goal scorer through and through, recording 34 goals in just 55 games this season. The six-foot-one, 195-pound forward shows good creativity and goal scoring hands that deliver a heavy wrister to the net with a lightning quick release. Simply put, Puempel is a player who smells blood in the offensive end.

But where questions have fallen on Puempel lie in his ability to be consistent. The left winger went through bouts of invisibility this season, in both the offensive and defensive zone. That is, when the minus-33 player put effort into the defensive zone. 

Regardless, elite scorers are hard to come by which is why Puempel is an attractive package to add to an organization.
