ZSC Lions forward Auston Matthews has had his draft season slowed.

Matthews, projected to be the top pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, is expected to miss several weeks after sustaining a back injury, according to a report from Sportsnet’s Damien Cox.

Matthews, Future Considerations’ top-ranked prospect, reportedly sustained the injury on Oct. 23, falling hard into the boards. The 18-year-old was named to the United States’ roster at the upcoming Deutschland Cup from Nov. 6-8 in Germany. He is expected to miss the tournament due to the injury.

It’s a “minor back injury. Auston will be reevaluated tomorrow and we should have a better update,” Pat Brisson, Matthews’ agent, told TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Matthews has 10 goals and seven assists in 14 games this season with the Lions.
