Roy is a large pivot with some intriguing two-way ability. He is a pretty good skater for his
size with solid top-end speed, but he could add another gear and work on his first step. His
pucks skills are solid yet unspectacular, meaning he is normally not the guy entering the zone
with the puck or trying to deke past many opponents. His passing is solid; short passes are
on the tape. He hesitates a lot and prime passing lanes tend to close because of it. His shot
is pretty strong with impressive velocity when he puts his weight into it. He has a good release
for one-timers. He goes to the net for rebounds. His physicality is almost non-existent. Hustles
to enter gritty areas but he doesn’t always finish his checks or fully engage. He loses too many
board battles against smaller players. Needs to add strength and be better at protecting and
handling the puck in tight spaces. Often looks like he is trying to work hard, but he unfortunately
is not working efficiently. He is strong in the face-off circle and effective when using his reach to
defend. Roy fell down our draft board all season as his game just did not progress much from
last season. He does have some offensive upside, but we think it is mostly going to come from
grinding out goals at the next level.  (May 2015)
