Toews plays a similar game to his brother Jonathan in that both play a solid two-way game. That is were the similarities end though with Jonathan being a skilled forward with true game-breaking abilities and Toews being more of a character player. He is not without skill as he has soft hands and can play an effective offensive game around the net and from the hash marks in. He has good vision and can make passes in tight. Toews has that great instinct of where to get to on the ice and where the puck is going to be. He plays solid defensively and has good defensive anticipation. He is willing to block shots, good at blocking out passing lanes and is good in the faceoff circle. There is much projection from the small glimpses resembling Jonathan, his brother, in David’s game that has some scouts contemplating his upside. (May 2008)
