Pietrangelo plays the game in a clam manner controlling team breakouts and offensive attacks. He sees the ice very well and makes good decisions with the puck. He has very good size and can punish opposition with big hits along the boards although that is not a predominant part of his game. Pietrangelo’s defensive positioning is good and his long reach takes time and space away from attackers. He skates well and has decent acceleration. His shot is hard and accurate but his playmaking skills and passing coupled with elite vision are his main strengths. (May 2008)
