McCollum is a butterfly/standup mix style goalie who has many good characteristics in his game. He possesses great positioning and the ability to read the game through traffic. His form is tight and he stands up tall taking up much of the net. He moves well and keeps the openings to a minimum. When he is focused and on his game McCollum can be virtually unbeatable. He plays his angles well and loves to challenge shooters. He displays quick reflexes, a quick glove and he never gives up on a play. His skating, agility and overall mobility are all strengths.
