Motin is a mobile hard working defender who is at his best when he keeps things simple. He can get overwhelmed like at the WJC when too much is asked of him. He makes a solid first pass and his defensive positioning is strong. He is strong on his skates and plays a physical brand willing to deliver or take hits and battle in the corners. He reads the play well in his own zone. His decision making when pressured with the puck is often questioned. Motin tends to make mistakes when asked to do too much. His offensive upside is not as high as first though.(May 2008)
