Allen was a mid-season revelation to most observes while backing- up starter Timo Pielmeier most of the year. When he did get the opportunity he showed solid positional play coupled with good size and angle play. He is a competitive and focused prospect who looks much bigger in net than he does in person. Allen possesses the ability to be a game stealer and his play only gets better under pressure. He gives his teammates lots of confidence to play in front of him. He is adept at playing the puck, acting like a third defender at times as well as outstanding rebound control. He sees the play well through traffic and has exceptional puck handling skills. He makes solid outlet passes to his defenders and often retrieves the puck on dump in efforts which are hard to defend for the competition. (May 2008)
