Markus Phillips will captain Canada.

Phillips, along with alternate captains Antoine Crête-Belzile and Owen Tippett will serve as Canada’s leadership core at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia, from August 8-13.

“All three players set a great standard for our leadership group,” said head coach Paul McFarland in a release. “They lead by example in the way that we need players to – each and every day.”

Past captains include current NHLers Jonathan Toews, Steve Stamkos, Matt Duchene, Mathew Dumba, Aaron Ekblad, and Sam Reinhart.

Phillips, 17, had three goals and 12 points in 63 games with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League.

Tippett had 15 goals and 20 points in 48 games for the Mississauga Steelheads in the OHL in 2015-16. He’s fourth in Future Considerations’ preliminary ranking for the 2017 NHL Draft.

Crête-Belzile had three goals and 10 points in 42 games with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season.
