Cole Perfetti is best in class.
Perfetti, ninth in Future Considerations’ Spring ranking for the 2020 NHL Draft, topped all Ontario Hockey League players with first-place finishes in four different categories in Eastern and Western Conference Coaches Polls for the 2019-20 OHL regular season.
The OHL Coaches Poll provides coaches with the chance to recognize the top three players in 20 different skill categories within their own conference.
Perfetti, who had 111 points (37 goals, 74 assists) in 61 games with the Saginaw Spirit in 2019-20, paced the Western Conference with first-place finishes in the smartest player, best playmaker, best stickhandler, and best shootout shooter categories.
Marco Rossi, who paced the OHL with 120 points (39 goals, 81 assists) in 56 games with the Ottawa 67’s, led all Eastern Conference skaters with six nominations, including first-place finishes in the smartest player, best playmaker, and best shootout shooter categories.
Rossi, eighth in Future Considerations’ Spring ranking, also finished second in best on faceoffs and best defensive forward, and third in best penalty killer.
Jamie Drysdale, the top-ranked defenseman for the NHL draft, finished second in Western Conference voting in the smartest player, best skater, and best offensive defenseman categories.
Goaltender Nico Daws was voted most improved and best puckhandling goaltender, and second best shootout goaltender in the Western Conference.
The Coaches Poll is tabulated when each team submits one nominee per category. Coaches then vote for the top three players for each category within their conference. Players receive five points for a first place vote, three points for a second place vote, and one point for a third place vote. Teams are not permitted to vote for players from their own team, allowing for a maximum of 45 possible points for each winner.
