If Twitter has a sleeper, Ryan Sproul is his name.

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenseman who played Midget AAA last season had an incredible second half to his Ontario Hockey League season, recording 33 points in his last 44 games. Perhaps more impressively, Sproul recorded 10 goals from January onward, second only to the OHL’s Ryan Ellis, who was awarded the Red Tilson Trophy as the league’s most outstanding player.

Sproul’s sudden outburst has Twitter expecting his name to be called long before the 64th overall pick, where Future Considerations has him slotted in the final ranking of the season.

“Absolutely Sproul will,” tweeted WHLFromAbove. “Too intriguing of a package. Raw, but very nice player. I wouldn’t be shocked if he went late 1st.”

Another tweeter agreed.

“Has the size, shot, can skate, exploded w/ ice time in 2nd half,” firstroundbust tweeted. “Upside is there.”

Will Sproul be a first round surprise?

In five days, that question will be answered.
