The QMJHL draft is Saturday, but the league’s top prospect will not be in attendance.

Cole Harbour, NS. native Nathan MacKinnon, widely regarded as the best prospect out of Atlantic Canada since Sidney Crosby, will be a no-show.

The 15-year-old MacKinnon, who played at Shattock St Mary’s last year, is reportedly considering going the NCAA route. Playing in the QMJHL would make him ineligible to do so.

Some feel MacKinnon is using the college route in an effort to dictate where he will play in the QMJHL. The Baie-Comeau Drakkar holds the first overall pick. Some believe MacKinnon is destined for the QMJHL, but only if he ends up in the right location.
