Nathan MacKinnon and Seth Jones have been doing battle for the top spot on draft boards well beyond the 2012-13 season.

Ranked as the top two prospects available for the 2013 NHL Draft by Future Considerations all season, MacKinnon and Jones will go head-to-head again at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January 16 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as captains of opposing teams.

The 17-year-old MacKinnon will serve as Team Cherry’s captain. He’ll be accompanied by Halifax Mooseheads teammate Jonathan Drouin and Darnell Nurse of the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds, who will serve as the team’s assistant captains. Drouin has 40 points in 19 games this season and is currently fourth in Future Considerations’ November ranking while Nurse, ranked 12th, has 17 points in 26 games this season.

Jones is set to head up Team Orr and will get help from assistants Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67’s and Medicine Hat Tigers forward Hunter Shinkaruk. Monahan, currently serving a 10-game suspension, is 10th in OHL scoring with 36 points in 24 games and is fourth in Future Considerations’ November ranking. Shinkaruk, who is ninth in WHL scoring with 35 points in 24 games, is currently ranked eighth.
