Jones named Hockey Soda Defenseman of the Month

Future Considerations announced today Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL has been named Hockey Soda Energy draft eligible Defenseman of the Month for December.

Jones put together an impressive holiday season. Before departing for the World Junior Championship as a member of Team USA, the Winterhawks blueliner had eight assists and nine points in six games – extending a nine-game point streak from November that was eventually snapped in Jones’ final game before the World Juniors. As a member of Team USA, the Plano, TX product had two points in three games in round robin action.

In 31 Western Hockey League games this season, Jones is seventh among defensemen scoring with eight goals and 20 assists. His 28 points are also good enough to earn a share of third among rookie scoring in the WHL.

Jones has been slotted second in Future Considerations’ 2013 NHL Draft Ranking all season and projects to be the top defenseman available in June.

Also considered for the award was Jordan Subban of the Belleville Bulls.
