The Florida Panthers have returned their top prospect to the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.

Jonathan Huberdeau, selected third overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, will be headed back to junior as the Panthers set roster to open the season. The St. Jerome, PQ. native had three goals and four points in five preseason games.

“Thanks for all the support,” Huberdeau said via Twitter. “Enjoyed my time in south Florida. I’ll be back next year.”

In 67 regular season games last year, Huberdeau scored 43 goals and 105 points. He added 30 points in 19 playoff games to help Saint John to a QMJHL title. Huberdeau was also named Memorial Cup MVP.

Returning Zack Phillips, Tomas Jurco and Nathan Beaulieu as well, the Sea Dogs are the favourite to repeat as Memorial Cup champions.
