Nico Hischier capped an impressive first season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a major award.
Hischier, second in Future Considerations’ Spring ranking for the 2017 NHL Draft, was named the QMJHL rookie of the year Wednesday. The 18-year-old finished with 38 goals and 86 points in 57 games with the Halifax Mooseheads in 2016-17.
The 18-year-old Swiss forward also received the Mike Bossy Trophy, awarded annually to the league’s best professional prospect.
