Heponiemi named WHL Rookie of the Year

Aleksi Heponiemi of the Swift Current Broncos was named the recipient of the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy,  presented to the WHL’s Rookie of the Year.

Heponiemi, 18, led all WHL Rookies in scoring this season with 28 goals and 58 assists for a total of 86 points. The Finland native finished second in team scoring for the Broncos this season and his 58 assists were first on the team. Heponiemi continued his strong playmaking abilities into the postseason for the Broncos; he amassed eight assists in 14 playoff games.

He is currently ranked 61st in Future Considerations Spring ranking for the 2017 NHL Draft.
