Stone is stopped on his initial shot from point blank after a feed from Philip Danault behind the net, but manages to lift the rebound over Bunz to make it 1-0

Gauthier-Leduc makes a dangerous pass that is picked off in the slot, forcing Harrington to take a tripping penalty.

Second Period Thoughts
-Gormley might be the most calm defenseman in camp. He grows with each and every period.
Mark McNeill is doing the little things right that typically go unnoticed. It will help his chances.
Christian Thomas continues to use his speed and shot to generate chances.
-Defenseman Morrow has had a few costly turnovers at the offensive blue line.
-Both Ross and Max Reinhart need to pick up their game as they have been virtually invisible.
Connolly has started to play like he wants to be at the World Junior Championship. When he has, he’s been very impressive.
Mark Stone, although held of the scoresheet, has always been dangerous in the offensive end, with and without the puck.

Quinton Howden drilled along the boards by Connolly. Howden had problems getting off the ice.

Goalies are now Tyler Bunz and Mark Visentin.

White Shootout:
Schwartz stopped by Domingue.
Strome deke. Toe save Domingue.
McNeill shot. Five-hole goal.
F. Hamilton deke. Blocker side goal.

Red Shootout:
Murphy deke. Glove save Wedgewood.
Scheifele shot. Hit post.
Gallagher shot. Miss net.
Di Giuseppe shot. Glove save Wedgewood.

Smith-Pelly off for interference. On the PP, Joe Morrow falls and gives Connolly an odd-man rush that he almost converts on.

Mark Scheifele blocks a shot off the leg and lets out a loud moan. He’ll be ok though.

First Period Thoughts
Nathan Beaulieu is looking more and more like a power play specialist. Shown some good things with the man-advantage. Hasn’t shown much else other than that.
-Dumba is willing to hit anything that moves and hasn’t passed up an opportunity to throw the body once yet.
Jamie Oleksiak‘s efforts looked much better. The player seemed more fluid on the ice.
-A game-time decision, Connolly is playing with a lot more passion and drive tonight.
Ryan Murphy continues to play more of a subdued game, which will help his chances.
-In his first game, Brad Ross hasn’t been near enough of a pest, one of the best qualities of his game.

Nice save by Scott Wedgewood on Mark Scheifele, who looked like he was going to make a cross-crease pass before trying to go five-hole.

Cody Ceci with a beautiful play behind the opposing net in the offensive zone. Set up a beautiful one-timer opportunity.

Brandon Gormley with a nice play at the point with the puck. Looking very comfortable out there.

Connolly playing with more passion than what he showed yesterday.

Physical nature gets Dumba in trouble. He’s off for boarding.

Mathew Dumba setting the tone on a physical note. Had three hits in his opening shift.

Brett Connolly is on the ice and will play tonight.
