Nail Yakupov will be on his way to Edmonton.

The consensus top pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft will visit the Edmonton Oilers Sunday after wrapping up his participation at the NHL Combine in the hopes of convincing the club of making him the first overall pick in three weeks.

“For me it was great news,” Yakupov told CBC Thursday night. “I’ll probably meet the guys and the president and the GM — just talking with the guys and see the dressing room and see the town.”

The Oilers invited both Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to Edmonton in highly publicized moves prior to both the 2010 and 2011 drafts.

Yakupov isn’t the only player expected to be heading towards Edmonton. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, a visit from Ryan Murray wouldn’t come as a shock. Murray is regarded as the top blueliner available in the draft, a position the Oilers need to strengthen.
