Ryan Ellis, Calvin de Haan and Jared Cowen will have a shot at redemption. The trio, who represented Canada’s silver medal effort at the World Junior Championship a year ago were named today to Canada’s selection camp roster Monday.
Should Ellis make the team, it will be his third consecutive event.
The Chicago Blackhawks have released Brandon Pirri, currently with the Rockfort IceHogs of the AHL, to Canada as well.
Sean Couturier of Drummondville and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Red Deer, who are battling to be the first overall selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, were also named to the team. Joining their draft class is Kitchener defenseman Ryan Murphy.
Ryan Murray, eligible in 2012, was also named to the camp roster.
In all, 18 first round draft picks were named to the 39 man camp roster.
Hockey Canada is hoping that Los Angeles Kings forward Brayden Schenn, currently on a conditioning assignment with the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs, will be made available at a later date.
The camp runs December 12-15.
