Hunter Shinkaruk has become the center of attention.

After an incredible campaign that saw him notch 49 goals in 66 games, the 2013 NHL Draft eligible will take the forefront with a Medicine Hat Tigers club that will lose Emerson Etem to the professional game this season.

Coach Shaun Clouston can be put at ease, though, as Shinkaruk is more than ready to expand his presence in his draft season.

“Shinkaruk is an impact goal scorer that has proven he can be an elite offensive threat,” said Zenon Herasymiuk, a Western Hockey League scout for Future Considerations. “Shinkaruk is fast and slippery, his vision is among the best in the draft class and he isn’t afraid to work in the corners to create chances for his team.”

Shinkaruk’s elite talent hasn’t gone unnoticed by any stretch. The Calgary, AB product is fifth in Future Considerations’ 2013 Summer Ranking and Hockey Canada reached out to the 17-year-old to participate in the Canada/Russia Challenge.

The event was another step in an international resume that already boasts a game-winning goal in overtime the bronze medal match at the World Under-18 Championship in April. Shinkaruk also has experience in the Program of Excellence with Canada’s entry in the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial and a standout performance at Under-17 Challenge two years ago.

With all his accolades, international and otherwise, it’ll be hard for Shinkaruk to hide during his draft season.

He’ll be the one turning heads, instead.
