In the race for first, Ryan came out on top. In the final ranking for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins secured Future Considerations’ 1st overall spot.

Ranked no lower than third all season, Nugent-Hopkins never relinquished the top spot in the ranking since wrestling the position away from Sean Couturier of the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

He was challenged by a late-season surge by Jonathan Huberdeau, whose playoff heroics earned not only the Saint John Sea Dogs a QMJHL title, but also the St. Jerome, PQ native the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the league’s playoff MVP. Heading into the season, Huberdeau projected to be a second round pick. He continued to climb all season long and a 105-point campaign launched him into top-5 consideration.

Huberdeau leapfrogged Kitchener Rangers forward Gabriel Landeskog, who didn’t fall out of the top-5 after being ranked 8th overall in the offseason. The Swede had 36 goals in 53 contests this season and is the OHL’s top-ranked player at 3rd overall.

Larsson, Landeskog’s countryman, is the draft’s top defenseman and has garnered first overall consideration all season long. The six-foot-two, 210-pound defenseman has the size, skill and smarts NHL teams covet.

Couturier, who had a 96 point campaign, finishes the season in fifth spot.

Rounding out the top-10 is Niagara IceDogs defenseman Dougie Hamilton, Ryan Murphy of the Kitchener Rangers, Niagara’s Ryan Strome, Saint John’s Nathan Beaulieu and Swede Mika Zibanejad.
