The mobile stay-at-home style defender plays his best when he keeps everything in front of him. Nicastro displays good gap control and uses his stick effectively. He angles attackers to the outside and plays a physical brand of defense. He is a solid skater who has a nice fluid stride and looks to have above average defensive instincts. Nicastro makes a good outlet pass and has a decent shot from the point. He will join the rush but only when the opportunity is blatant. Nicastro is a hard worker who should develop into a solid top six defender. He does not have much pro offensive upside and his physical abilities are not utilized consistently because of his passive demeanor. Nicastro needs to add strength which should bolster his ability to play a physical defensive game. (May 2008)
