Doughty is a highly skilled defender who knows when to jump into the rush and when to hang back. He is intelligent and really controls the play when on the ice. His skating has improved from last season and is now considered a strength. Doughty can also play a physical game with well-timed open ice checks as well as hard work along the boards and in front of his net. He has a great attitude and has good leadership qualities. Doughty has a good hard shot but his strength is using his vision and playmaking skills to quickly transition a play into a scoring chance. His offensive abilities will be what make him a special NHL player. Drew has the ability to change the game with one Bobby Orr like rush. (May 2008)
