The hybrid style goalie possesses a tight butterfly and good natural athleticism. Hjelle stays up until the shooter makes a move showing good patience. He looks bigger than his size dictates and covers a lot of open net with his quick pads and flashy glove. He aggressively challenges shooters and has a never give up attitude. Hjelle’s mobility is strong and he goes cross crease very fast while maintaining balance. He anticipates the developing play well but does not cheat and stays in position. He has solid rebound control and has loads of upside. Hjelle is a smaller sized goalie and NHL teams like to draft big bodies tenders to develop. He has some technical holes that will need addressing like opening up when moving laterally and his footwork can be sloppy. (May 2008)
