Jamie Oleksiak is heading north.

According to Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News, the Dallas Stars first rounder with dual citizenship will be trying out for Canada’s entry at the 2012 World Junior Championship in Calgary and Edmonton.

The Toronto, ON. native was named to Team USA’s summer camp, but was noticeably absent on Canada’s list of invitees.

Oleksiak, whose father is American, has suited up for Team USA at the 2009 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Because the event isn’t sanctioned by the IIHF, Oleksiak is an international free agent and can play for either nation.

Canada can only return one defenseman from their silver medal winning squad a year ago. Erik Gudbranson, who may suit up for the Florida Panthers this season, is eligible to return.
