Kitchener Rangers defenseman Ryan Murphy has been sidelined indefinitely with a concussion, the second of his career.
The play came in the Rangers 4-3 victory over the Niagara IceDogs Friday night. Murphy took a hit from Niagara IceDogs forward Tom Kuhnhackl. Kuhnhackl, recently acquired by the IceDogs, allegedly left his feet to deliver the check behind the Rangers net.
Murphy was able to skate off under his own power but did not return to the game.
It is the second concussion of his career for Murphy, who was selected 12th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. His first came in March of 2011.
In nine games this season after being returned to the Rangers by the Hurricanes, the Aurora, ON native has six assists.
