Sean Monahan, Future Considerations’ fourth ranked prospect for the 2013 NHL Draft, has been cut from Team Canada’s selection camp for the Wirld Junior Championship.

The Ottawa 67’s forward was the only draft eligible cut Wednesday. Remaining in camp is Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin and Hunter Shinkaruk. JC Lipon, who is undrafted, also survived the cuts.

“Being one of the younger players at camp, Monahan looked a bit uneasy throughout,” said Future Considerations scout Zenon Herasymiuk, who was in attendance. “He was solid in his own zone, but was unable to make an impact in the offensive zone. Monahan had a few nice chances that never came to fruition. I don’t think he brought the physical edge Canada was looking for in its bottom-six.”

Monahan will return to Ottawa but will not suit up as he is currently serving a 10-game suspension handed down in November.
