Cale Makar, MVP.

Makar, 18th in Future Considerations’ Winter ranking for the 2017 NHL Draft, has been named the recipient of the Alberta Old Time Hockey Players Trophy as Most Valuable Player of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The 18-year-old Brooks Bandits defenseman is ninth in league scoring and leads all defensemen with 63 points (19 goals, 44 assists) in 50 games. Makar’s 63 points are a Bandits franchise record, and he sits one goal and one assist shy of matching franchise marks in those categories as well.

Makar was also awarded the W.G. (Bill) Scott Memorial Trophy as the AJHL’s outstanding defenseman.

Last season, Makar received the Dick White Trophy in 2015-16 as the league’s top rookie, and also won the CJHL Rookie of the Year Award. He was a unanimous selection to the AJHL South All-Rookie team, and one of two defensemen on the AJHL South All-League Team.
