Tom Kuhnhackl has been suspended 20 games for his hit on Kitchener Rangers blueliner and Carolina Hurricanes prospect Ryan Murphy.

In his second game since joining the Windsor Spitfires via trade, Kuhnhackl received a five minute major and a game misconduct for his hit on Murphy behind the Rangers net before being handed his lengthy suspension. Murphy is out indefinitely with a concussion and has been completely shut down by Kitchener.

Kuhnhackl, a prospect of the Pittsburgh Penguins, was given 20 games based on the fact the hit made contact with the head of a vulnerable, unsuspecting opponent, speed and distance traveled to make the hit, as well as Murphy’s injury according to the OHL’s suspension video.
