As initially reported by Newsday’s Katie Strang via Twitter, often criticized prospect Kirill Kabanov has been reprimanded by the New York Islanders for showing up late to the club’s first day of rookie camp.

Kabanov showed up 15 minutes late for team physicals, prompting his dismissal from the Islanders’ opening day.

Once projected to be a top pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Kabanov fell to the Islanders in the third round after a slew of eyebrow raising events causing questions about the enigmatic Russians’ character including being released from the Moncton Wildcats, Kabanov’s QMJHL club, in the midst of their league championship run.One of the more interesting storylines coming from the 2010 NHL Entry Draft revolved around the duration in which Kabanov would have to wait to hear his name called. A ‘first round talent’, many predicted Kabanov’s tumble into the third round with his perceived ‘eighth round attitude’.

The Islanders, with the 65th pick overall, took Kabanov.

Not the first impression the former Spartak Moscow forward wanted to make on his future bosses, to say the least.

Kabanov is expected to be on the ice for the second day of camp.
