Hodgson’s back

Cody Hodgson’s back. And for the first time in over a year, both parts of the above sentence can run together and bring positivity to the Vancouver Canucks organizations.

Misdiagnosed as a slipped disk suffered two offseasons ago, Hodgson’s torn back muscle is finally behind him as he heats up the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. In just 13 games as a pro after an exceptional career with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League, the Markham, On. native has six goals and nine points.

All nine points have come in the last eight games.

He hasn’t just caught the attention of his opponents.

Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis is pleased with the progress of his former first round pick.

“We’re thrilled to see it,” Gillis told the Globe and Mail. “There will come a point where he will get his opportunity (with the Canucks).”

If Hodgson continues to impress in the American Hockey League, he could earn a one-way ticket to Vancouver.
