A 14-0 win over Latvia may seem like a big victory for Russia, but it could come with an even greater loss – Mikhail Grigorenko.

The status of the 17-year-old Grigorenko is in doubt after a second period collision with Latvian defenseman Arturs Salija.

Grigorenko did not return to the game and is questionable to play again at the World Juniors.

“There was an injury around the ankle,” Russia coach Valeri Bragin said through a translator after the game. “We don’t know about it right now. We’ll see tomorrow morning.”

When asked if it is possible Grigorenko has seen his last action in the tournament, Bragin replied, “It’s possible.”

Grigorenko isn’t the first 2012 draft eligible prospect to go down in the tournament. Finnish defenseman Olli Maatta is currently out after suffering concussion-like symptoms.
