It will be a busy summer for Jim Ellis. He’ll be tied up expanding the mantle in his home to accommodate the hardware his son Ryan has been accumulating.

While there isn’t much the Nashville Predators prospect hasn’t won in his four seasons with Windsor, the blueliner used the Ontario Hockey League as his personal playground in what will be his final season in a Spitfires jersey.

Ellis set career highs in goals (24), assists (77) and points over the course of his 58 game swan song and became the first defenseman in the CHL to hit 100 points in 17 years. As a result, Ellis was named just the fourth defenseman in league history to be named the recipient of the Red Tilson Trophy as the league’s most outstanding player.

“There’s been a lot of great players who have come through this league and to be on that trophy with a lot of the greats is very exciting,” Ellis said via conference call. “It’ll be something you remember down the road.”

A pair of league titles joined by a pair of Memorial Cup championships. A pair of Max Kaminsky awards as the OHL’s top defenseman in 2009 and 2011. The Bobby Smith Trophy as the top academic player in 2008. One gold and a pair of silver medals from the World Junior Championship. Another trio of gold medals from the World Under-18, Ivan Hlinka Memorial and World Under-17 Challenge.

Ellis wouldn’t mind adding a Calder Cup to the haul already in his household. The Freelton, ON. native is currently in Milwaukee playing for the Predators’ AHL affiliate Admirals.

After that? The sky is the limit for the five-foot-10, 170-pounder.

And with the talent Ryan possesses, father Jim might be better off buying a bigger house.
