FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CALGARY, AB — Future Considerations Hockey today announced Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts as the Franchise Hockey Manager draft eligible Defenseman of the Month for January.

In eight games, Ekblad recorded six goals and 11 points, pushing his already career-high in goals to 17 on the season and helping set a new mark with 38 points. His month in Barrie was interrupted by the BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, where he served as captain for Team Orr.

“Since his time as a top defenseman with Canada at the World Juniors, Ekblad’s game has just grown exponentially,” Future Considerations scouting director Dan Stewart said. “He has really taken charge like an army general on the ice in every game he has played in, both for Barrie and the Top Prospects Game, and done so with also staying within himself.”

Ekblad is currently Future Considerations’ top-ranked player for the 2014 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award was Anthony DeAngelo of the Sarnia Sting. DeAngelo, who also participated in the Top Prospects Game, recorded four goals and 12 points in the month of January.
