Igor Shestyorkin is about to get super.
The 2014 NHL Draft eligible goaltender, who was named FC Double Blue Sports goaltender for the month of October, is one of two netminders named to Russia’s preliminary roster for the Subway Super Series, a set of six exhibition games against the Canadian Hockey League.
Shestyorkin is one of seven draft eligibles named to Russia’s preliminary roster.
He’ll be joined by defensemen Vladislav Gavrikov (Loko, MHL) and Mikhail Tikhonov (VMF-Kareliya, VHL) for the six-game set, while blueliner Alexander Mikulovich of the Niagara IceDogs is expected to compete against the Ontario Hockey League.
Mikulovich will skate alongside Nikolay Goldobin in the OHL leg of the series, while Ivan Barbashev of the Moncton Wildcats is expected to play against the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Nikita Scherbak of the Saskatoon Blades will play in Russia’s two-game set against the Western Hockey League.
Vladimir Tkachov (Omskie Yastreby, MHL) was also named to the preliminary roster.
Rinat Valiyev of the Kootenay Ice and Kirill Vorobyov, who spent last season with the Portland Winterhawks, were also named to the team. Neither were selected in the 2013 NHL Draft.
