The New Jersey Devils have trimmed their training camp roster to 55, returning three players to junior and releasing two free-agent tryouts.

Goaltender Scott Wedgewood, defenseman Reece Scarlett and forward Reid Boucher have been released to their major junior clubs.

Both Thomas Nesbitt and J.T Barnett were in camp as unsigned and undrafted tryouts.

Wedgewood was one of four goaltenders invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Development Camp this summer in Edmonton and is a candidate to represent Canada at the 2012 World Junior Championship.

Originally selected in the third round, 84th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Wedgewood had a 28-18-2 record with a 2.99 goals against average and .908 save percentage with the plymouth Whalers last season.

Boucher will join the Sarnia Sting for his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League. A fourth round pick from 2011, Boucher decommitted from Michigan State earlier this summer.

Scarlett, also drafted in 2011, will return to the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. Scarlett had six goals and 24 points while playing in all 72 games last season.
