It was the wake-up call seven Canadians didn’t want Tuesday morning.

Defensemen Jarome Gauthier-Leduc and Mathew Dumba and forwards Max Reinhart, Michael Ferland, Mark McNeill and Zack Phillips were among the first cuts as Canada has reduced its camp roster to 35.

The World Junior hopefuls were called at 6 a.m. MT to learn their fate before being ushered through a side door at the hotel and on their way to return to their junior teams.

Four goalies, 12 defensemen and 19 forwards remain in camp.

Canada will finalize their roster for the World Junior Championship Wednesday.
