Biggs, Grimaldi lead USA into U18

2011 NHL Entry Draft prospects Rocco Grimaldi and Tyler Biggs are set to lead Team USA at the World Under-18 Championship in Germany.

Biggs, ranked 16th overall for the draft, and Grimaldi, slotted 18th, were named to the 22-man roster Wednesday. The duo are the only two returnees from last year’s gold medal winning squad. Biggs, a native of Cincinnati, OH, was held pointless in Belarus a year ago while Grimaldi’s eight assists were first on the team. In total, Grimaldi shared the point total lead with Adam Clendening and Nick Shore at 10.

The pair of forwards will be backstopped by Pittsburgh, PA native John Gibson. The United States National Team Development Program goalie is the top ranked netminder for the draft.

Also named to the team was JT Miller (ranked 46th) and defenseman Robbie Russo (ranked 57th).

In total, the Ron Rolston-led club is searching for its third consecutive gold medal at the tournament, one of two Under-18 tournaments each year. The other, the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, will be held

The tournament is scheduled to take place April 14-24, in Crimmitschau and Dresden, Germany.
